A New Chapter for Atelerix Press

After a season of reflection and planning, Atelerix Press is delighted to announce its relaunch — a return to publishing with renewed purpose, focus, and commitment to books that illuminate the human story.

This new leg of our journey begins with two milestones. The first is the publication of Hearts Under the Sword, a literary novel by Jonathan Aubrey (the pen name for our new author.) This haunting work marks the debut of the Quarterdeck Press imprint and signals our dedication to fine fiction with resonance and relevance. Publisher’s Weekly Book Life said about it: “Aubrey skillfully blurs the lines of morality in this unsettling mystery of simmering tension, shocking betrayals, and the dark lure of wealth and ambition.”

The second milestone is the launching of our five-volume Building a Family series by acclaimed documentary photographer Mary Motley Kalergis. These books — With This Ring; Giving Birth; Considering Adoption; Mother: A Collective Portrait; and Seen & Heard: Teenagers Talk About Their Lives — trace the arc of family life from marriage to childbirth, parenthood to old age,  through intimate black-and-white portraits and first-person narratives. Together, they form a cultural document about marriage, parenthood, and coming of age in America.  National Book Award-winning author Andrew Solomon says about the series “While Kalergis deals frankly with the sometimes-herculean challenges of building a family, these albums are suffused with light, hope, and the transformative power of hard-won parenthood.”

In the months ahead, we’ll be sharing some of the stories behind these books — the people who opened their lives to Mary’s lens and voice, about bringing each volume to print, and about the vision that powers Atelerix Press in this new era. We invite you to follow, whether as a longtime friend or as a reader discovering us for the first time.

Welcome back to Atelerix Press. The next chapter has begun.
